幕后制作
2007年，在应邀参加西西里塔奥米纳电影节的时候，意大利写实电影流派新贵导演朱塞佩·托纳托雷宣布了自己即将拍摄最新一部西西里主题电影《巴里亚 -风之门》的消息。而这一部完全以导演托纳托雷土生土长的家乡作为舞台的影片，却将拍摄地选在了北非突尼斯城外20公里处的一家废弃旧工厂，几乎全部在当 地造景拍摄完成。谈起将本片选在突尼斯拍摄的原因时，托纳托雷表示：“为了重现上世纪三十年代到六十年代的巴阿里亚，我们需要建设一个摄影基地再现五十年 前的城市风貌，而突尼斯距离西西里很近，气候相似而特点却更加鲜明。因此成为理想的选择。”
女演员妮可莱·格里毛多在谈到自己在影片中的人物塑造时说到：“托纳托雷影片中的女人们所代表的是70年前的西西里妇女的形象，处于非常底层，她们说 着口音浓重的方言，言行思想和我都截然不同。我完全致力于按照托纳托雷的描述来塑造我自己的角色，当然，也参考了我的祖父辈的照片以及他们的生活经历。”
