This is the Schrodinger's cat thought experiment. I am no physicist and have no idea of the solution.
But you can try knock at the box and see if the cat still response. However, if the cat is not dead, it may knock the poison off and get kill when it responds to your knock.
Is that the idea of quantum mechanics?
