one of the reasons i heard is due to poverty which turns ppl into whores / gays / ladyboys  :smile_27:

Because Thailand is a buddhist country.. they are supposed to treat both genders (and all creatures) even... so they have been more opened to transexuality since before modern time.  

then toward the last few decades, a lot of the pop stars etc are all trannies, so it gave a false image to poor people that if they have the surgery, they'll make more money -- which in reality is not true... 

it's actually quite fucked up, because a lot of people have their sex change in order to get into the sex industries to make money, but they are not really mentally prepared for all the changes... and unlike in the states or other places, where they give you psychological assessment to make sure you are ready for the sex change... so in the end, there are all these trannies who are well... mentally unstable (don't want to call them crazy). >.>
