of course we need to know some basic knowledge but as it labels as general and basic i presume we can learn it from other places like through your daily life ... the university is the place to get ...
Then, you say, in your marketing, does a marketing major value more than 4 years on-hands marketing job experience?

One is talking a war on paper.
One is fighting in a war with hands on.

Oops, somehow I miss to post this problem

Imagine, you are a interviewer of new recruitment on a marketing position

You have limited time and tons of applications

Will you scan and filter tho ...
if you ever have chance to look at the job adv, the recruiters would list out the position description and that's all what they need ... if you can satisfy the listed requirement you would get your ticket to the interview ... as far as i know, HR nowsdays have some sorta of applications/ programs to help sort out the applicants like by searching key words in their resumes and many others

Keyword = blowing water?

Sorting resume = ok, you solved the problem with aid by program

How about interview?
The keywords are always those ability or so, not specific knowledge requirement like in computer science, you have to know which languages, blah blah blah

People always say they are diligent, organized, motivated, good at leadership, disciplined, able to work as a team, etc etc. Even a newbie like me can make up the resume like that, although will be discovered through interviews.

....

Compared to some rural chinese people, I am very happy I can study andlive happily. I won't blame much that HK system although it can beimproved and it is improving ( except the damn language policy ). EvenI hate the 3 years university policy and I suffered from that, I amstill happy with that.
glad to hear that you admit the eduction system in hk needs to be improved
but if you don't blame it or make a complaint, the bloody gov't won't take actions at all ... you goto speak out loud!

It is improving
One bad point of 3 years university is going to be 4 years by 2012.

You may miss the post the parts I dislike HK system or where they can improve.

1. 3 years only university ( will be solved by 2012)

2. Language problem ( ......worse and worse )

3. Courses diversity problem ( resources problem again and it's also limited as we don't have many diversified teachers ). Hope it can be improved in university which is more crucial to one's career

But still, I don't think the public exam has problem. It efficiently minimizes the transaction cost LOL

I am sure other countries education has problems too.
Its like 人睇你好,你睇人好

Speak out loud?
Not gonna work as HK is administrative driven and I don't know what those chief officers are thinking.

Maybe they have better perspective ( they think ) and keep whatever others are saying no

Probably Australia one suits you better doesn't mean HK one is bad
As far as I know, the spoon feeding one helps in the sense that the HKstudents are relatively better than foreign students in math/science,in the freshman year.
yes and perhaps spoon-fed students did better in the 1st year but how about the years later on?

anyway i don't think oz system is perfect for me either ... but it does give me chance and choices to do what i want and is kind of flexible compared with the HK crappy one

The years later all depend on individuals
I just want to compare the highschool here.
I refer to knowledge, not ability too which I can't provide data to you

If you try to compare HK students to US students
That's no match at all

HK elites are elites from HK
US elites are elites from the whole world.

What I can tell you, I know some of my HK friends who score GPA 4.3 in my previous school and that's not many  students can do that.

If I include the data points from China, that must amaze you
Chinese education system is much more spoon-feeding than HongKong
