England dominates for 2 centuries ( 17xx-19xx ) with tons of colonies
While the supernation America was british colonies before the indepedent war
I guess you have known the above fact.
Science improvement include patents were dominated by England and American ( They provide the best patent systems, UK was the first nation with patent protection while American has better return for patent ), some famous scientists who directly or indirectly lead to first/second/third industrial revolution were from UK/US. (James Watt, Thomas Edison, Issac Newton, Michael Faraday, etc )
It's mainly because of the econ/scientific power
But then, English is precise, preciser than Chinese and preciser than Japanese and much shorter than jap too
People study, for an article, English takes 1 page, Chinese may take less than 1 page but Japanese takes 2 pages.
