You missed the best timing of buying stocks, at the beginning of the year.
Now all stocks are very high, even it drop few hundred, one thousand, it is still too high.
As your coming work, probably you can't check the stock price all the time, you will invest in a comparatively longer basis, I believe.  Probably not day trade.  If so, you need to buy the stock in a relatively good price, will be important.
