The following is my understanding when I took the course in year 1988 (21 years ago.................)
I don't know whether it has changed or not.
Japanese Course offered by General Consulate of Japan
Elementary Course, even its name is Elementary, it does not teach you from the basic Japanese character.
They have an Admission Test to test your basic Japanese.
Therefore, you have to study at outside school, say for around half year, then you can sit for admission test for Elementary Course, at General Consulate of Japan.
I don't know whether it has changed or not.
Honestly, if you learn few months or 1 to 2 years in HK, you still won't understand their conversation.
Think it this way, we HK people, learn English since Kingergarden.......... how many years we learn English till Form Five? 14 years? But if you catch a Form Five student and ask him / her to talk to an expat, see how far they can understand?
