i did the run 1km, walk, run 1km in 30 mins..... how does that sound?

That's interval training?
It's more muscle-wise but if you like, yet, you can do it but this is much more tiring
Or you may try jogging all the way for 30 mins
Increase the speed gradually when you feel good and decrease a bit if you can't keep that.
