Actually I am also confused by these 2 terms.
In traditional philosophical discussion, these 2 terms are not so important. Only after Marx, the Chinese low B scholars like to emphasis this difference. Actually Materialism is only a political tool for them. Not a serious phiolsophical topic.
If you want to know Materialsim, you better know what is Idealism, as Karl Marx is based on the theory of Kant and Hegel to form his own philosophy.
Idealism is mainly refering to Kant and Hegel. U should read the Critique of PUre Reason, this is the first step to understand Idealism and modern phiolsophy.............
