Depends.
If you bring a girl to a French Restaurant or a Restaurant that she has never been, it is likely that she doesn't know what food is the best. (Sometimes, even the Menu is written in English, the food names are very difficult to understand. I mean, for a local girl). So, as a man, you better go to some place that you are familiar, or simply ask the waiter for today's special, ask them to give your recommendation.
To ask is not a shame. Not knowing but pretend to know........... is even worse.
Very often that before you order any food, the waiter will ask do you want some drink and normally, sometimes, that was the embarrassing moment. If you know the girl can't drink alcohol, you can ask whether she like to have orange juice or coke......... or if you know she can drink wine, you can ask whether she would like a glass of house Red Wine or White Wine? You have to ask and give response to waiter. If you just sit there and say nothing, the girl may not sure whether it is appropriate to order a drink or not (because it cost money) ......... and that will be dead air.
If both of you don't drink juice and wine and you ask the waiter for water, some Restaurant may bring a bottle of 'Mineral or distilled water' to you, and it will be charged in your bill. If you hear bottle water will cost money and then say you no need to have water......... (it is normal..... but girl will feel a little bit odd)........ remember, nothing is free in a Restaurant.
Just go to somewhere affordable, then you will have an enjoyable meal.
