For Taiwan people, they are controlled by those politicans and mass media. Some may be rational but should be able to realize the benefit of uniting with China, provided that PRC won't go into crazy in the future like the Dark Age by Chairman Mao.

I think China's best strategy is to use soft attack on Taiwan's population.
Using economy benefits and cultural links to soften the Taiwanese population's stance on uniting with China. Expose more of Taiwan's corrupt officials to demoralize the population and officials even further. When sufficient confidence is lost and most of the old generation has died, use some of the population to rouse a protest against the current government structure then China can step in and pursue its 1 country 2 system methods.

These steps are totally 9-up and untested

oh this method is a maxi-damage strategy. It hurts both sides and if it's not well planned, you will be on the wrong side of the damage.
