unfortunately... to become the CE of HK, one must pledge loyalty to the central government, and this is a tough cookie to swallow as you are putting yourself in a difficult position. Hk really nee ...

I had dinner with Ip Lau two times in US
Oh well, from what I observed

She has her idea and really implemented yet ( like the think tank ) and 2 of that think tank officers got elected in distri ...
yes she does indeed lack the political guile that is required of modern leaders, but that's why she has a cabinet to assist her. Her attitude, I believe, is what is required for the CE position, and none of the current leaders in HK have it.

That's only if we are lucky.

The plus side of allowing HK to adopt universal suffrage is to allow a pilot test of the universal suffrage model that can be referenced for any future adoptions in ...
I don't really think the current PRC really want to have a pilot run.

Two things, first, I agree with your fear of snowball. Even without HK, all those information are already feeding into China through internet or whatever, even some overseas students return back to China and spread that. Even HK is successfully, it's not applicable in China due to geography and demography condition. Many peasants living in rural rural rural area without any easy way of connection. blah blah blah. In the Asia, ONLY Japan is a good example of democracy as Japan was well developed and much smaller than China in area.

Taiwan is a bad case. Korea is okay but not that good. Thailand, Burma, Philiphines, etc, are all failed.

Second thing, as I heard, PRC wants to use HK as a good example of 1 country 2 systems to Taiwan.

The negative side of allowing HK to adopt the system is the fear of the snowball effect that will sweep across the country crying for universal suffrage which will possibly cause instability and another June 4th incident in extreme cases.
for example?:smile_41:
