for us it's reversed.
kendo team had 60 members.. fencing had... 4. 

but the school has one of the best kendo teachers you can get in canada.  the canadian champion was my teacher (he's actually black. heh)... but the guy who started kendo in canada, the only 8 dan kendoka founded the team there and still teach occasionally (though retired now). 

though, i think the biggest reason the club is so successful isn't the teacher, but because the people are really fun.
