getting a phd is like a lifestyle.
if you're not into what you do, you can't get it done...
and having a phd and a master degree is not very different in most fields... unless he's interested in research work or in the academic area... 

i respect your decision clot... your life is so short, you should find what you want to do... by then, it's not too late to do a phd on what you like to do.

I also face this problem before, don't know whether I should finish my master degree. It is just the beginning of the program, then it is up to you. but if it is already in th middle of the program, then finish it. It is a duty for you and for the people around you. And it is a proof to show others that you had done something in these years. Otherwise you will feel sorry in re-calling these years' history
